The department of Automobile Engineering was started during the academic year 2011 to 2012 with a sanctioned intake of 60. The students keeping in view the demand for automobile engineering the department has a vision to enrise the knowledge of student and updates the technology of automobile engineering. The department is responsible for teaching in the area of chassis design, engine design, electric& hybrid vehicles, FEA analysis, alternative fuels, automotive vehicles management, safety and vehicles styling. The department boasts of enthusiastic faculty and talented staff members who are experts in the area of their interest.
To impart quality education, skills and attributes based on continuously changing global standards and local industrial requirement and hence emerge as centre for advance studies and research.

At the time of graduation, the students of Automobile Engineering should have the
PO1: ENGINEERING KNOWLEDGE: Apply the knowledge of mathematics, science, engineering fundamentals, and an engineering specialization in the solution of complex engineering problems.
PO2: PROBLEM ANALYSIS: Identify, formulate, review research literature and analyze complex engineering problems reaching substantiated conclusions using first principles of mathematics, natural sciences and Engineering sciences.
PO3: DESIGN /DEVELOPMENT: Design solutions for complex engineering problems and design system components or processes that meet the specified needs with appropriate consideration for the public health and safety and the cultural, societal and environmental considerations.
PO4: CONDUCT INVESTIGATIONS OF COMPLEX PROBLEMS: Useresearch based knowledge and research including design of experiments, analysis and interpretation of data and synthesis of the information to provide valid conclusions.

The Automotive Components laboratory which is one of the important laboratories in the Automobile Engineering was established in the year 2010. The automotive components lab has equipped with Multi cylinder engine, Four wheel drive and Air brake system, etc. The lab includes both academic and research based equipment in order to experience the skill of dismantling and assembling of Engines, Engine components and Chassis Components.
This laboratory helps to produce high focused independent practical skill on fuels and lubricants among students. It also serves the students to determine properties of several fuels and lubricants; compare them with standards so as to get an idea about its quality. This lab will supplement theoretical inputs in the Automotive Fuels and Lubricants testing laboratory course.
The engine performance and emission testing laboratorywhich is one of the important laboratory in the Automobile Engineering department was launched in 2011,provides faculty and students with resources to conduct experimental research on internal combustion engines. The lab includes both academic and research based equipment in order to study the combustion characteristics, engine performance and emission measurement. All the engines are equipped with eddy current dynamometers which increase the loading accuracy.
Automotive electrical and electronics laboratory established in the year 2015 for Academic purpose. It focused the students to Identify charging, starting, ignition, accessory-circuit components, their functions, maintenance procedures, types of automotive wiring, types of terminals, and wiring diagrams.
Automobile Department having vehicle servicing and testing lab facility with highly sophisticated testing instruments. This lab is useful for the complete servicing of two and four wheelers. It is having a car with onboard diagnosis equipment.
The laboratory has various two wheelers and three wheelers to conduct all the tests specified in the curriculum of Anna University.
